ENCAUSTIC SERIES
|
In my encaustic paintings I let the painting process lead me. One of the characteristics of encaustic is that it is more difficult to control. I use the accidental properties of the medium to open me up.
In many cases ideas generated during these work sessions lead to larger oil paintings. However, their primary purpose is to expand my creativity and allow me an opportunity to really play with paint.
These paintings often include artifacts collected during my daily walk with my dog. Kitchen cabinet parts, food wrappers and containers and discarded building materials are just some of the materials I have employed. Through these "found objects", the viewer shares my journey of discovery and in carefully looking at these works unearths their meaning.
